First Impression

Solair's compact form easily fits into your work or home desk setup while adding interaction into your daily routine.

To turn Solair on, simply press the top button to lift the fabric top, adjusting the fan speed — the higher you lift. Paired with multi-color LED giving users feedback on their filter health and air quality, it naturally brings itself to rest when the day is complete.

Less is More

Less is More

Avoiding the overly structured design language that is often associated with personal tools for a well-rounded product — leaving users to contemplate their space rather than the object.

Marrying fabric and plastic using detailed aluminum accents at the base of the body. This organic form gives users the free-form exploration of what they want while retaining more defined specifications for air purification and fan speed.

Staying compact was critical as work and living environments shrink, making consumers think more critically about what is important in their space and on their desk.

our solution

Careful + Compact

Careful + Compact

The final design carefully merges all components into one form.

Three configurations — moving, cleaning, and storage — give users an infinite number of positions to fit their home.

Action to Interact

Action to Interact

In a digital age where most devices can be controlled by simply using your voice or action, Solair requires you to interact.

Lifting and lowering the fabric top adjusts the fan speed and light emitted. Bringing these in unison gives users the ability to match their workflow in the moment with a natural acoustic experience users want to return to.

Sleep mode is activated by pressing the top cap of Solair, adjusting itself to its lowest setting and extinguishing the light. When in sleep mode the fan still runs silently, brewing clean air while you sleep.

Rethinking the Waste

Rethinking the Waste

Due to the need to replace filters often and the large amount of waste created during that process — Solair uses a combination of renewable and biodegradable materials to construct the filter.

  • Cotton
  • Coconut Husk
  • Charcoal
  • Mycelium

Cotton keeps the filter neat and presentable; the coconut fibers bring structure for greater mycelium threads infused with activated carbon, creating a defense against odors, chemicals, and particulates — while remaining compact and fully compostable.

Action to Interact

Solair's final proportions refined across three colorways: Stone, Ash, and Carbon.

The standing form uses this as an opportunity to tell the story of how the product can stand as a family within a single living space — unobtrusive enough to coexist, distinct enough to pair.

A soft ovoid base grounds the upright form and is the primary point of visual tension: how something so light rests so deliberately on a surface.
